I’m too young for chair yoga … right?

What is Chair yoga?

Chair yoga gives you all of the physical and mental health benefits of a normal practice (think: muscle toning, reduced stress, increased circulation and flexibility, respiratory health, etc.) without the stress of getting on hands and knees or sitting on the ground. While chair yoga is exceptional for those with limited physical mobility or injuries, it is also just as helpful and enjoyable for those with full mobility and health.

Before you scroll on through with the thought of chair yoga being too simple or for only for those much older than you, you might want to think again. Not only does the chair allow us to really isolate our muscles and get even deeper into twists and asanas that we might not be able to enter fully during a regular practice, but we are better able to strengthen our core and upper body with the use of weights. Because we have the support of the chair, we can enter more challenging balance poses with greater ease as well as hold our balancing poses for even longer than we could during an unsupported yoga class.

Here are some of the benefits of chair yoga, and after that, a review from an amazing client who has fallen in love with this class.

Benefits of chair yoga:

  • Increased Flexiblity

  • Improved Strength

  • Improved Self-Awareness

  • Reduced Stress

  • Improved Pain Management

  • Better Sleep

“I have been attending yoga classes for four years and gained great flexibility. But as an aging senior what I need now is muscle, strength and balance improvement. Kim's new chair yoga class offers the extra workout of weights and balance without any potential back strain. These classes are always fresh and challenging. Thank you Kim.” -Bonne Olson

So if you are someone who has trouble getting up and down from the ground, have arthritis, become dizzy when going through the up-downs of a traditional yoga class or are just someone wanting to shake up their practice a little, this is the class to try.

We have our Chair Yoga & Strength class at 10:30am on Wednesdays and Fridays.
