This past week many in America celebrated our country’s birthday. They celebrated freedom, while many stood up to fight for their freedoms. Simply put, there was a lot of discussion about freedom.
In the studio, we discussed a lot about our own personal freedom: the freedom to be our authentic self.
It’s so easy to get caught up in being what society has told us we should be. We know what cookie cutter shape our body, voice, and actions are expected to be. These expectations have been pressed upon many of us since childhood. What success looks like. What our presence should come across as. Maybe we were told we were supposed to be quiet, not rock the boat or create waves. Do exactly as we are told without asking why. Maybe we were taught our bodies should be small and unoffensive and look just right. Maybe we were told we should have a specific kind of job, aspire to have a certain kind of family or partner. The list of “rights” have been pushed for so long that anything outside of it can be perceived as “wrong”.
But here at Empower, we press you to remember: you are enough exactly as you are.
Make waves.
Be yourself.
Speak up. You deserve to be heard, you deserve to speak your truth.
Your currency to this world is not your perfect life, body, family, or job. You don’t owe it to anyone to be who they think you should be.
Be unapologetically yourself.
This doesn’t give you allowance to be unkind, but it does give you the allowance to set goals and aspirations and dreams without looking at yourself now with criticism and unkindness.
The freedom to be yourself is a gift that only you can give to yourself. Find your voice. Meet yourself exactly as you are today and remember: you are enough.
